Pakistan: Minister who ridiculed stage actress now bans 'vulgar' film posters in Punjab province
New Delhi: Launching a crackdown on “indecent” and “vulgar” movie posters, the Information Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province, Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, on Thursday ordered a province-wide ban on such posters. As per reports in Dawn News, the minister has ordered ban on all vulgar and indecent film posters displayed inside or outside theatres. He also warned that if any theatre is found violating the order it will be fined first, after subsequent violation, the theater will be shut down. The minister took to Twitter to share an official notification. Which read: “It has been observed that indecent signboards within and outside the Cinema Halls and at different places have been displayed throughout the province of Punjab”. It further read: “I would like to request that immediate action may be taken for the removal of such vulgar/indecent film sign boards under Indecent Advertisement Probation Act 1993 and Punjab Motion Picture Ordinance 1979”.

— Fayazulhasan chohan (@Fayazchohanpti) August 30, 2018
However the terms vulgar and indecent lack a clear definition in the notification. Chohan had recently vented out his displeasure over contemporary film posters. Dawn quoted him as saying “Yani yeh wakhri jawani hai jo cinema houses pay ai hui hai, (this is a strange youthfulness that's taken over cinema houses). Is this civilised? That you print out pictures of half naked women and put up huge posters of them? People watch porn for that kind of entertainment." He had also fired a salvo at stage shows and hitting out at a popular former stage show actress he said: “he would have made her a haji (someone who has completed the religious pilgrimage) if it was in his power”, Dawn reported. He had reportedly said that not only Indian content, but what Pakistani films and stage shows portray that has led towards the decline of the industry. The former actress Nargis, who was singled out during Chohan’s speech, had told Geo News that the minister should chose his word wisely and that all citizens are respectable and have the rights to pursue legal action.

2+2 Dialogue will help enhance engagement on security, diplomatic priorities: US

By Reena Bhardwaj

Washington DC [United States of America], Aug 31 (ANI): United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Defense James Mattis will hold talks with their Indian counterparts Sushma Swaraj and Nirmala Sitharaman on September 6, in New Delhi. Officials in Washington have termed the upcoming dialogue a \'major opportunity\' to enhance the US engagement with India on critical diplomatic and security priorities.

On Thursday afternoon, a senior administration official said Secretary Pompeo\'s travel in tandem with Secretary Mattis is a strong indication of the deepening strategic partnership between the US and India, and of India\'s emergence as an important security provider in the region.

\"India\'s central role in our National Security Strategy is enshrined in the President\'s National Security Strategy as well as the administration\'s South Asia and Indo-Pacific strategies,\" the official told reporters during a conference call.

One of the main objectives of the upcoming dialogue will be to build on recent momentum in defense relations and gauge what might be done next. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the official added: \"We expect progress and further deepening of ties between our two militaries and creating a framework for greater information sharing and interoperability. We are also eager to expand defense trade, which is estimated to reach 18 billion by 2019 from essentially zero in 2008.\"

US President Donald Trump administration said the agenda at the dialogue will extend far and wide across the full gamut of defense issues. Still, to be sure, one of the key priorities will be concluding, or bringing close to the point of conclusion, several more foundational agreements that will facilitate US-India intelligence sharing. \"We also will use the 2+2 to further advance our expanding counterterrorism cooperation,\" the official further added.

The Iran sanctions issue will continue to be one of the enduring tension points in an otherwise sound relationship, a tight rope for leaders to walk during the 2+2 dialogue. When asked if the secondary sanctions on Iran would be a subject of discussion in New Delhi, the official added: \"We have been discussing regularly with India issues related to both Iran and CAATSA and are looking, as with other partners, to identify ways to cooperate to support our policy goals with regard to both those issues.\"

Experts expect that the 2+2 will see a faster pace of defense deals in the near term. The Trump administration has already made it abundantly clear that the two nations will discuss proposals to increase maritime domain awareness, defense innovation.

\"We are looking at potentially collaborating with some of our defense innovation efforts in the United States, our Defense Innovation Unit for example, and discuss proposals to enhance bilateral defense cooperation. So those would be just an example of some of the proposals that we are going to discuss at the meeting,\" the senior administration official added.

The senior official briefly touched on the economic relationship with India, and said that the economic relationship remains a key pillar of the India-US partnership.

\"The United States and India expanded bilateral trade by 12 billion last year, reaching 126 billion in 2017. We want to continue to grow the trade relationship to our mutual benefit, but to ensure the trade is fair and reciprocal. It is no surprise that tariff and non-tariff barriers have been the subject of longstanding concern, and the US Government is working with the Government of India to address market access challenges,\" added the official. IHRC concerned over enforced disappearances in Pak

Islamabad [Pakistan], Aug 30 (ANI): The International Human Rights Council, Hong Kong (IHRC-HK) has expressed concern over enforced disappearance in Pakistan and called upon the state institutions to play an active role in the recovery of all the missing persons.

In a report titled, \'PAKISTAN: The International Day of the victim of Enforced disappearances-Bring back the disappeared\', the IHRC-HK said that scores of protesters and activists are abducted and kept in \"habeas corpus and incommunicado without any legal representation\".

It also believes that despite an uproar over the enforced disappearances during the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM), the matter failed to make it to the list of serious human rights issue that has implications for the rule of law.

The report further underlined that the issue of enforced disappearances was not even touched upon by any political leader during the poll campaigns of recently held Pakistan general elections. \"No political party dared cross the line and attract the ire of the intelligence agencies - the very institution that is responsible for disappearances,\" the IHRC-HK pointed out.

It also claimed that as per the International Commission of Jurists, which is headquartered in Switzerland, more than 24,000 people residing in Pakistan have fallen prey to unlawful arrest by the authorities so far.

The IHRC-HK cited a report compiled by PTM, which suggested that since 2001 as many as 3,000 people residing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) were killed during their captivity by the military forces.

The report of the IHRC-HK also stated that as per the Voice of Baloch Missing Person (VBMP), 6428 people are missing from Balochistan after their arrest by the law enforcement agencies since 2002 to date, while 196 people were missing from Sindh province since January 2016 to date, suggested the Voice of Missing Person of Sindh.

Condemning the heinous crime, the IHRC-HK recommended that whenever a missing person is recovered he must be produced before a court of law. It also suggested that families who are fighting cases for their missing members should be given a monthly stipend by the government in order to aid them in proceedings and to meet their basic needs

Expressing disappointment over the ongoing human tragedies in Pakistan, the report noted that despite accepting recommendations from the UN Working Group, no suitable measures were taken in order to put an end to disappearances in the region. Economic aims drive China to tighten grip over people in Xinjing

Washington DC [USA] Aug 30 (ANI): As China is keenly engaged to fulfill President Xi Jinping\'s signature \"Belt and Road Initiative\" (BRI), that will link Chinese economy with major continental and maritime zones of the Eurasian continent, the people in its own Xinjiang province are living in dismay.

Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region is the hub of three of the six \"economic corridors\" at the heart of BRI.

\"Rather, China has constructed a dystopic vision of governance in Xinjiang to rival that of any science-fiction blockbuster\", wrote Michael Clarke, an associate professor at the National Security College, Australian National University in The National Interest - an American bimonthly international affairs magazine.

Clarke, who is an internationally recognised expert on the history and politics of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region wrote, \"The Chinese Communist Party has since 1949 pursued a strategy of tight political, social and cultural control to integrate Xinjiang and its people into the People\'s Republic of China (PRC). This has periodically stimulated violent opposition from the Uyghur population who chafe against demographic dilution, political marginalisation and continued state interference in the practice of religion\".

\"Stability\" in Xinjiang is however now a major strategic imperative for the party, driven by periodic terrorist attacks in, or connected to, Xinjiang by Uyghurs that Beijing blames on an externally-based organisation, the \"Turkestan Islamic Party\" (TIP) and the region\'s role as hub of key elements of the BRI.

\"This obsession with \"stability\" in Xinjiang has seen the regional government\'s expenditure on public security balloon, with provincial spending on public security in 2017 amounting to approximately $ 9.1 billion -- a 92 per cent increase on such spending in 2016\", wrote Clarke.

Much of this expenditure has been absorbed by the development of a pervasive, hi-tech \"security state\" in the region, including use of facial recognition and iris scanners at checkpoints, train stations and gas stations, collection of biometric data for passports, and mandatory apps to cleanse smartphones of potentially subversive material.

\"This system is not only reliant on technology but also significant manpower to monitor, analyse and respond to the data it collects. Its roll-out has thus coincided with the recruitment of an estimated 90,000 new public security personnel in the region\", Clarke wrote in The National Interest.

This is consistent with the party\'s move toward tech-driven \'social management\' throughout the rest of China. However, in Xinjiang it has become defined by a racialised conception of \"threat\" in which the Uyghur population is conceived of as a \"virtual biological threat to the body of society.\"

From government officials describing Uyghur \"extremism\" as a \"tumour\" to equating religious observance with a virus, the party\'s discourse frames key elements of Uyghur identity as pathologies to be \"cured.\"

He concluded by saying, \"The party\'s \"cure\" for such pathologies is a programme of mass internment of Uyghurs - perhaps up to one million people according to some estimates - in prison-like \"re-education\" centres based on analysis of the data harvested through its system of predictive policing.\" (ANI)

This story has not been edited. Liberal democratic norms under threat in Maldives, says Australian think-tank

Nedlands [Australia], August 30 (ANI): As Maldives is heading closer to hold Presidential elections, the international community has raised concern over threat to liberal democratic norms under the leadership of President Abdulla Yameen in the island nation.

\"The Maldivian crackdown on dissent is seen as a violation of free and fair elections, with the European Union announcing its plan to impose sanctions, ranging from travel bans to freezing assets if the Yameen Administration does not allow Parliament and the judiciary to function normally and independently\", said Future Directions International (FDI), an independent, not-for-profit strategic research institute in Australia.

A delegation of European officials, including Members of the European Parliament (MEP), met with Maldivian Democratic Party members last month to discuss the undemocratic trends that have been witnessed in the archipelago of late.

The delegation stated that attacks on democratic principles, combined with the country\'s close ties to radical Islamist groups, have brought the security of European tourists, business and investors into question.

The think-tank said in its research, \"After the government enacted unconstitutional laws that criminalised freedom of political opinion, a state of emergency was imposed in February. Home monitoring of BP helps treating hypertension faster, say experts

New Delhi [India], Aug 30 (ANI): Hypertension or high blood pressure is a leading public health challenge globally due to its high prevalence and related morbidity and mortality. Today, not only the adults, but even the teenagers are becoming victims of hypertension due to their lifestyle and food habits.

Expressing concern over the growing challenges of hypertension in India, doctors from different states congregated under one platform to discuss the issues related to it and to chalk out better ways to deal with the global burden of hypertension during a national level conference held under the aegis of Indian Society of Hypertension in New Delhi.

As per reports, compared to 20-34 year olds, the risk of hypertension is 6-8 times higher in elderly people and 2-3 times in people in the 35-59 age group.

\"In India both hypertension and diabetes are 15 to 20 years early in comparison to Europe. We are getting hypertension in adolescent age as well. There are two types of hypertension -- one at the extreme of ages which is secondary hypertension, caused mainly due to thyroid, heart and kidney issues. Primary hypertension usually comes after 25 years of age but in India even the primary hypertension is coming early. It is because of the faulty lifestyle among youngsters\", Dr Narsingh Verma, Secretary General of Indian Society of Hypertension told to ANI.

Several analyses have shown that compared to the hospital care, home BP monitoring is associated with significant reductions in systolic and diastolic BP, as well as reductions in antihypertensive medication and therapeutic inertia.

\"Home monitoring is considered to be the best system of knowing blood pressure because once we measure blood pressure at clinic it is basically the blood pressure of white coat effect, because of the fear of doctor and fear of atmosphere blood pressure rises. When we do it without the fear of it at home\", added Dr Verma.

The doctor can train the patient how to measure the blood pressure and the training is simple. Without the need of health professionals, the monitors can be used for their own monitoring and that home monitoring data can be shown to doctor to change, initiate and augment the treatment, Dr Verma added.

Decrease in the physical activity, fast unplanned urbanization of the country, consumption of polished food, and decrease in the fibre, consumption of more salt, oil, unbalanced diet, high calorie diet are some of the major cause behind high blood pressure. Doctors recommend reduction in stress levels, increasing physically activity, cut down on calories, early consumption of meals are some of the \'must do\' for those fighting hypertension.

\"It is not only about consuming the right amount of food but should be consumed at the right time and apart from that it is important to correct the sleeping pattern especially for the young adults\", suggested Dr Anuj Maheshwari, Executive member of the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes.

During the conference, Dr Maheshwari highlighted the prevalence of various cardio metabolic risk factors in different geographic regions of India as per age and sex. The prevalence of hypertension in urban Indian population is high. Among rural Indians, prevalence is high among Eastern India people when compared to other regions.

\"The most important thing is to increase awareness and make people check their blood pressure routinely so that they are aware of the fluctuations. Most of the people check their blood pressure just once when they visit the doctor which is not the correct thing. We should encourage people for self home monitor BP when they are completely relaxed. Once you are more comfortable at home then blood pressure measurement is more effective and it should be promoted to be done in that way\", said Dr Maheshwari. China heading towards serious food crisis, says research

Washington D.C [United States of America], Aug 30. (ANI): China\'s declining summer grain production indicates the country is heading towards a serious food crisis, says Chinascope, a U.S.-based media research entity.

Quoting a research by well-known Chinese economist, Ye Tan, who recently published an article that has been circulating on the Internet, Chinascope said: \"On July 18, the national summer grain production data that the National Bureau of Statistics released showed that the total summer grain production was 138.72 million tons in 2018, down by 3.0 per cent or 3.06 million tons from 2017. On August 10, the Committee of the Market Early Warning Experts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs released an analysis of the supply and demand situation as to China\'s agricultural products in August 2018. The analysis predicted a shortage of corn production from 2018 to 2019 with the ending balance down by 17.75 million tons. The gap had grown from the previous year.\"

\"In addition, as of August 15, the projected wheat purchase in the main producing areas was 41.059 million tons, a year over year decrease of 20.331 million tons. Among the three provinces of Henan, Anhui and Hubei, there was a sharp decline of 55.1 per cent in Henan and 45.9 per cent in Anhui. In Henan, the production accounts for about a quarter of the country\'s wheat production,\" Chinascope said. The reduction in summer grain and in wheat production is alarming.

According to the National Grain and Oils Information Centre, China\'s corn, rice and wheat production will suffer a reduction of 8.08 million tons, 5.545 million tons, and 7.867 million tons respectively in 2018 compared to 2015.

According to a report by the World Bank, China\'s total food demand is expected to reach 670 million tons in 2020 and 700 million tons in 2030. Even if China could maintain a record high of 620 million tons, the gap would still be large.

\"At present, China imports 95.53 million tons of soybeans every year. The self-sufficiency rate is less than 20 per cent. In the case of corn, China also imports about 760,000 tons from the U.S., accounting for one-quarter of total imports. As the trade war escalates, a food shortage crisis will surface\", says Chinascope.

At the same time, there are reports on fires that have broken out in grain warehouses. Regarding the most recent one, coincidentally, the timing was that the fire occurred after the party issued a notice on July 23 that it would perform an inspection of the grain warehouse.

In less than a week, at 8:00 am on July 29, a fire broke out in the No. 1 storage warehouse of that Datong Grain Reserve in Weinan City, Jilin Province.

Afterwards, the local official said that the fire had nothing to do with the upcoming audit. Four days before the incident, the Central First Inspection Team had just entered the site for inspection. In another coincidence, the five cameras in the granary failed just before the fire due to wind, electrical appliances, and other reasons.

In March of this year, there was a fire at the Jiaozuo grain warehouse in Henan Province. The staff of the Central Grain Reserve also denied that the fire was related to the inspection of the national grain clearing warehouse.

The non-profit organization said in its research, \"In recent years, the China Grain Reserves Corporation has been accused of becoming a very large base of corruption. The authenticity of the grain production data has been questioned for many years. According to the official data, it is estimated that China\'s grain output has been overstated by a minimum of hundreds of millions of tons\". Pakistan: Imran Khan pays first visit to army headquarters for security briefing
Islamabad: Pakistan's new Prime Minister Imran Khan today paid his first visit to the army headquarters in the garrison city of Rawalpindi where he was briefed on the security issues. Khan, the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), won the July 25 general election amidst the perception that the Pakistan Army, a major player in Pakistan's politics, has thrown its weight behind his party. The prime minister was accompanied by Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, Foreign Affairs Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Finance Minister Asad Umar among others. Khan was received by the country's Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters, Army spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor said. "Prime Minister (is) being briefed on defence, internal security and other professional matters," he said. On Monday, General Bajwa had the first formal meeting with Prime Minister Khan, who was sworn-in as the 22nd premier of Pakistan on August 18, and discussed the security situation in the country as well as the efforts to ensure long-lasting peace and stability in the region. Bajwa had congratulated Khan on assuming the top ministerial job during their meeting. The powerful military has ruled coup-prone Pakistan for nearly half of the country's history since independence in 1947. Khan and Bajwa had held their first meeting in 2017 when the cricketer-turned-politician congratulated the latter over his promotion and appointment as army chief.

US may not grant waiver to India if it continues buying Russian arms, cautions Pentagon official
New Delhi: Alarmed at India buying new missile systems from Russia, a top Pentagon official said that there are no guarantees for special waiver from US sanctions, if India continues to buy new weapons from Russia, news agency AFP reported. Washington is concerned at the prospect of India’s military import from Russia, because India is an increasingly important US military ally and the world’s top defence importer. As per present US rules against Russia, the third countries who transact with Russian defence or intelligence sectors, could face sanctions from the United States. However, after lobbying from Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, the US president and the secretary of the state have been given options of granting waivers, when an ally nation transitions from legacy Russian gear to Western arms, AFP reported . As per reports, Randall Schriver, pentagon’s assistant secretary of defence for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs said the impression that Washington would insulate India ‘from any fallout from this legislation, no matter what they do’ is a bit misleading. The statement comes ahead of the significant two plus two summit between India and US in New Delhi. He said that US would still have very significant concerns if India bought major new platforms and systems from Russia.

Melania Trump gets trolled for wearing 4-inch-stilettos while gardening
New Delhi: First lady of US Melania Trump has once again come under the radar of trolls. Though the first lady is known for her good fashion sense, she does at times commit blunders when it comes to choice of clothing. This time Melania posted picture of gardening in the White House, wearing 4-inch-heels! Melania wrote on twitter: “had the honor to contribute to the beautiful & historic White House grounds today by planting a sapling from the Eisenhower Oak”. Trump unblocks critics on Twitter after court's order
New Delhi: US President Donald Trump unblocked many of his critics on Twitter following a court ruling that he cannot shut opposing viewpoints. As per the ruling of a federal district court judge, blocking people from president’s ‘@realDonaldTrump’ account violated First Amendment free speech rights in a case brought by The Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, reported AFP. The seven people named in the suit were unblocked. As per reports the institute had given a list of people to the Department of Justice be unblocked by Donald Trump, out which 41 more people are remaining. The district court argued that it was incumbent on the White House to immediately unblock the other people, even if they are not mentioned in the list but have been shut off because of political viewpoints. The First Amendment prohibits the president from blocking Twitter users simply because they have criticised him, the institute was quoted as saying by AFP.

Reham Khan reveals Imran wanted her to enjoy 'being a politician's wife' and not talk about corruption
New Delhi: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s ex-wife Reham Khan has made yet another revelation about how living with Imran Khan was for her during the time they were married. Leveling fresh charges on her former husband, Reham a former BBC journalist, has said that Khan had limited her to being just a politician’s wife. She said that Imran wanted her to just be a politician’s wife who would just enjoy the privilege of being that. He would not allow her to broach up the topics of corruption happening around and would expect her to compliment him for being a great leader, she recently said. "He wanted me not to share information I had as a journalist of what was happening in the province where he was in power. He wanted me to enjoy the luxury life he is so used to. I could not do that. People would bring me evidence of corruption and complaints wherever I went but Imran would first ignore them, then fly into a rage about it,” she was quoted as saying by Firstpost. She said that she had grown quite attached to Khan and that is why despite differences in principles, it was difficult for her. She said it was impossible for her to overlook his lack of interest in governing. She alleged that he wanted a smiling wife who would happily travel with him to luxury hotels, in private jets or enjoy living quietly in his sprawling residence. “With time, I saw through him and as I confronted him over the rampant corruption and a 180-degree turn in the ideology of the PTI, our relationship went rapidly downhill. A wife was not needed anymore and I was used as a sacrificial goat instead,” she added while speaking to the portal.

India hopes new Pak govt \'will make South Asian region terror-free\'

New York [USA], Aug 30 (ANI): India on Thursday voiced its hope that the new government in Pakistan under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan \"will work to build South Asian region terror-free\" rather than indulging in polemics.

Speaking at UN Security Council, India\'s Permanent Representative to the UN, Syed Akbaruddin said, \"We hope the new government of Pakistan will, rather than indulging in polemics, work constructively to build a safe, stable, secure and developed the South Asian region, free of terror and violence.\"

While addressing the UN Security Council\'s open debate mediation and settlement of disputes confronting Pakistan\'s repeated references to the disputed territories, Akbaruddin said, \"We remind Pakistan, the one isolated delegation that made unwarranted references to an integral part of India, that pacific settlement requires pacific intent in thinking and Pacific content in action. Regurgitating a failed approach, which has long been rejected, is neither reflective of pacific intent nor a display of Pacific content.\"

On August 20, Pakistan\'s newly-appointed Foreign Affairs Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had claimed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan indicating the beginning of a dialogue between the two nations but later Pakistan denied making any such claim and blamed Indian media for misquoting Qureshi. Denying Qureshi\'s claim, sources in India had also emphasised that there was no fresh proposal for the resumption of dialogue between the two countries. Migraine three times more common in women: Study

Washington D.C. [USA], Aug 30 (ANI): According to a recent study, women bear a significant amount of the migraine burden due to the higher prevalence of estrogen and other sex hormones.

To decrease the substantial health and economic burden of a migraine on individuals and society, researchers at the Society for Women\'s Health Research addressed how the disease differs between women and men.

Migraine is three times more common in women than men, reaching peak prevalence between ages 30-39, at a time when many women are balancing work, family, and social obligations. Women are more likely to experience longer and more intense migraine attacks and report more migraine-associated symptoms and comorbid conditions.

For example, sex hormones like estrogen play a large role in the development of migraine and are likely contributors to observed sex differences in the disease.

In addition, women and men seek and receive treatment for migraine differently, with women more likely to consult a health care provider. This could be because women typically experience worse symptoms or because the feminization of the migraine makes men hesitant to seek help. Recognizing these gender differences can help overcome patient and provider bias in the diagnosis and treatment of migraine.

Despite the clear differences in migraine between women and men, research exploring these differences has been limited.

Innovation in migraine has been slow. Until earlier this year, no treatments designed specifically to prevent migraine had come onto the market in more than 50 years. To promote advancement in migraine research and patient care, the research identified gaps in knowledge and prioritizes areas that warrant further attention in order to improve health outcomes for both women and men. Priority areas include:

-Increasing awareness of migraine to better identify and treat the disease

-Enhancing quality-of-life measures by improving the assessment of disability and understanding of migraine\'s impact on workplace productivity

-Destigmatizing migraine to increase rates of those seeking and continuing care

-Expanding current animal models, including increasing use of female animals, to learn more about sex differences at the basic research level

The findings appeared in the Journal of Women\'s Health. Pak: PM Imran Khan, wife Bushra Maneka, use helicopter for travelling to private residence; spark debate on austerity drive
New Delhi: Pakistan PM Imran Khan found himself mired in a controversy after news about him using official helicopters for his private visits surfaced in the media, contrary to his much-preached austerity drive. As per a report in Dawn News, Prime Minister Khan and first lady Bushra Imran used an official helicopter for travelling between Bani Gala (Imran’s private residence) and the Prime Minister House. The Pakistan government in defense termed the use of helicopters by the government officials an ‘official prerogative’, that does not go against the austerity drive. It has come to light that not only PM Khan but also Punjab CM Usman Bazdur uses official copters or private visit. The issue hit the news after photos of Bazdur travelling with his family members on a private plane surfaced on the social media. He also reportedly used an official helicopter for visiting his friend’s place to condole his father’s demise. The news has raised questions over PM’s claims of taking ‘austerity’ measures and living a simple life. Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary defended Khan while talking to a private television channel yesterday. He said that Khan’s use of helicopter for his travel does not define VIP culture. He said that the security protocol for the PM travelling to Bani Gala would lead to nuisance for the commoners. He said that the travel cost only 50 to 55 rupees for every kilometer, reported The Express Tribune. Fawad’s statement has also triggered a debate on the authenticity of these claims.

NY Guv halted Weinstein case probe after receiving donation

New York [U.S.A.], August 30 (ANI): Days before halting the probe into the handling of sexual misconduct allegations of Harvey Weinstein, New York (NY) Governor Andrew Cuomo\'s campaign received a donation from a law firm which previously represented the disgraced movie mogul.

The firm Manhattan firm Boies Schiller & Flexner donated the money on June 20 following, which the governor called for a six-month suspension of state Attorney General Barbara Underwood\'s investigation into Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance for deciding not to prosecute Weinstein for a 2015 groping incident, reported Page Six.

The firm defended the contribution as the spokesperson of the firm was quoted by Page Six as saying, \"Neither Mr. Boies, nor anyone from his firm, ever discussed Harvey Weinstein or Mr. Vance with Mr. Cuomo, or anyone from his office, at any time. Mr. Boies is a longtime supporter of Mr. Cuomo and his contribution in June was consistent with his contributions to Mr. Cuomo over years past.\"

\"The attorney general\'s investigation was suspended to avoid situations in which Weinstein\'s defense attorneys would be able to constantly petition the attorney general\'s office for information about what they uncovered and undermine a criminal prosecution,\" said Governor Cuomo\'s spokesperson.

Earlier this month, Weinstein\'s attorney has filed a motion to dismiss all the sex crime charges against the Hollywood producer. This electronic device could stop epileptic seizures

Washington D.C. [USA] Aug 30(ANI): An electronic device implanted directly into the brain can detect, stop and even prevent epileptic seizures, as demonstrated by researchers.

The researchers, from the University of Cambridge, the École Nationale Superieure des Mines and INSERM in France, implanted the device into the brains of mice, and when the first signals of a seizure were detected, delivered a native brain chemical which stopped the seizure from progressing.

The work represents another advance in the development of soft, flexible electronics that interface well with human tissue.

Professor George Malliaras who led the research said, \"These thin, organic films do minimal damage in the brain, and their electrical properties are well-suited for these types of applications.\"

While there are many different types of seizures, in most patients with epilepsy, neurons in the brain start firing and signal to neighbouring neurons to fire as well, in a snowball effect that can affect consciousness or motor control. Epilepsy is most commonly treated with anti-epileptic drugs, but these drugs often have serious side effects and they do not prevent seizures in three out of 10 patients.

In the current work, the researchers used a neurotransmitter which acts as the \'brake\' at the source of the seizure, essentially signalling to the neurons to stop firing and end the seizure. The drug is delivered to the affected region of the brain by a neural probe incorporating a tiny ion pump and electrodes to monitor neural activity.

The researchers found that seizures could be prevented with relatively small doses of drug representing less than 1% of the total amount of drug loaded into the device. This means the device should be able to operate for extended periods without needing to be refilled.

They also found evidence that the delivered drug, which was, in fact, a neurotransmitter that is native to the body, was taken up by natural processes in the brain within minutes which, the researchers say, should help reduce side effects from the treatment.

Although early results are promising, the potential treatment would not be available for humans for several years. The researchers next plan to study the longer-term effects of the device in mice.

The full findings are present in the journal- Science Advances. China building military training base in Afghanistan, says report

Hong Kong / Beijing [China], August 30 (ANI): The South China Morning Post citing unidentified sources with ties to the Chinese military said, China was building the camp in the Wakhan Corridor, a narrow area that separates Tajikistan from Pakistan, in efforts to improve counterterrorism efforts in the war-torn country.

The Hong-Kong based daily in its article published on Tuesday said that once the base is completed, Beijing will dispatch its hundreds of troops, amounting to at least one battalion.

A battalion could consist of more than 500 soldiers, according to the Post.

However, China on Wednesday denied that it planned to build a military base in Afghanistan. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying dismissed the report and told the reporters in a daily news briefing that the facts in the report were untrue.

It was not the first time reports have pointed to China seeking a military presence in Afghanistan, although it has denied all of them.

Last year, China opened its first overseas military base, in the Horn of Africa country Djibouti.

It has previously denied having plans for other overseas bases, but the United States expects it to build more, with Pakistan a likely location.

Song Zhongping, a military analyst based in Hong Kong told the South China Morning Post that the new base could serve as a training base to help \"strengthen anti-terrorism cooperation and military exchanges between Beijing and Kabul.\"

\"Afghanistan is very weak on counterterrorism,\" Song told the Post.

\"And the authorities there are worried about Taliban resurgence, but they can\'t do anything about it without help from the US, China, and other countries.\" (ANI)

This story has not been edited. Change your breakfast, dinner timings to reduce fat!

Washington D.C. [USA] Aug 30(ANI): Turns out, modest changes in breakfast and dinner times can reduce body fat.

During a 10-week study on \'time-restricted feeding\' (a form of intermittent fasting), researchers led by Dr Jonathan Johnston from the University of Surrey investigated the impact changing meal times has on dietary intake, body composition and blood risk markers for diabetes and heart disease.

Participants were split into two groups - those who were required to delay their breakfast by 90 minutes and have their dinner 90 minutes earlier, and those who ate meals as they would normally. Participants were required to provide blood samples and complete diet diaries before and during the 10-week intervention and complete a feedback questionnaire immediately after the study.

Researchers found that those who changed their mealtimes lost on average more than twice as much body fat as those in the control group, who ate their meals as normal. If these pilot data can be repeated in larger studies, there is potential for time-restricted feeding to have broad health benefits.

Although there were no restrictions on what participants could eat, researchers found that those who changed their mealtimes ate less food overall than the control group. As part of the study, researchers also examined if fasting diets are compatible with everyday life and long-term commitment.

Dr Jonathan Johnston, said, \"Although this study is small, it has provided us with invaluable insight into how slight alterations to our meal times can have benefits to our bodies. Reduction in body fat lessens our chances of developing obesity and related diseases, so is vital in improving our overall health.\"

The full findings are present in the Journal of Nutritional Science. Pakistan provided all sufficient aid to them and it\'s very clear,\" TOLOnews quoted MoI spokesperson Najib Danish as saying.

Meanwhile, Afghan Defense Ministry deputy spokesman, Mohammad Radmanish said, \"There has been an intelligence weakness in Ghazni.\"

Earlier, Pakistan\'s Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa rubbished claims from Kabul that Islamabad supported the Taliban in carrying out the Ghazni attack.

In a statement, Bajwa had said, \"COAS reiterates that there is no support to any terrorist activity inside Afghanistan from Pakistan side. The alleged return of injured/dead terrorists from Ghazni is incorrect.\"

Bajwa\'s denial came after Afghan President Ashraf Ghani questioned the Pakistani Army Chief that as to why the Taliban militants who are accused of carrying out the attack in Ghazni were receiving treatment in Pakistan hospitals.

\"General Bajwa, you signed a document with us and told me repeatedly in our conversations over the phone that when the elections (in Pakistan) are over you will pay attention to it. I need answers now..From where they came and why are they receiving treatment in your hospitals,\" the Voice of America had quoted Ghani as saying.

On August 13, Afghanistan had confirmed that more than 100 people were killed and over 150 others were injured after the Taliban launched an attack in Ghazni. The Afghan President had visited the war-affected city to take stock of the situation and ordered an investigation into the attacks.

Security officials had said that the Taliban had planned the attack six months ago and deployed other fighters in Ghazni from neighbouring provinces in what was seen to add more teeth to the militant group.
